Japanese craftsmanship is commonly revered among the best in the world, and Shun Cutlery delivers this tradition of immaculate “engineered art” to your kitchen with their professional knife line. When you’re looking for kitchen knives in Canada, a Shun knife will leave you satisfied.

Shun’s History

Shun is a member of the KAI Group, whose origins date back to 1908 when Saijiro Endo founded the company in Seki City, Japan. In 2002, after generations of master craftsmanship, KAI brought their Shun Cutlery brand to the Western market.

Most cooks, whether at home or in a five-star restaurant, were once accustomed to heavy European-style knives until the Shun Cutlery line revolutionized professional kitchens with their lightweight precision.

Each Shun knife goes through no less than 100 handcrafted steps before it is complete – an attention to detail that honours the great heritage of Japanese craftsmanship.

Many Knives to Suit Your Needs

Your labour in the kitchen is more than just peeling potatoes and dicing onions. The many demands of your craft call for a variety of tools.

Small and Versatile

A great paring knife is essential for efficient trimming, peeling, coring. The Shun Classic LIMITED EDITION 3.5” Paring Knife is the perfect tool for this intricate work.

With 68 layers of stainless steel Damascus cladding that wrap around the whole knife, you don’t have to worry about food sticking to the blade or stains soaking in. And deep inside the knife is the proprietary VG-MAX cutting core for excellent resistance against wear and corrosion.

Big and Bold

But, of course, no chef can work without their chef’s knife, and the 10” Kai PRO Chef’s Knife is just the tool you need. This longer knife provides great cutting leverage, particularly for larger foods, while the thin blade keeps the weight down so that you can cut all day without worrying about fatigue.

Knife Sets to Complete Your Kitchen

You can easily fill out your cooking toolset with this set, the Kai PRO 3-Piece Knife Set. With a chef, paring, and utility knives, you have everything you need to hit the pan sliced, diced, and well-priced.

But if you’re looking for a complete solution, you have the last set you’ll ever need when you buy the Kai PRO 7-Piece Culinary Knife Set. This set comes with transparent sheaths for each blade, a honing steel to keep that razor edge, and a knife roll to easily store and carry the set with you anywhere.

We Can Help

Frequently Asked Questions

Got questions about our Cutting Edge Cutlery products? We're here for it! We've rounded up answers to your most asked questions, as well as a few tips and tricks for problems you may encounter.

Do I need a license for anything you sell?

No, all of our products are perfectly legal to own in Canada.

Which is better: Carbon steel or Stainless steel?

This will typically depend on the application, as different steels are more suitable for different uses. Today, stainless steels are usually going to be better choices for pocket knives, whereas high carbon steel is still a top choice for swords and camp machetes.

I was looking for something on your site, but I couldn't find what I wanted. Can you special order it for me?

We purchase knives and blade edged products from a wide variety of brand vendors that we partner with. Depending on what you're after, if we don’t have it in stock there is a good possibility that we can arrange for it to be special ordered in.

What's the best knife you have?

It really depends on what you'd plan on using it for. Different shapes and blade steels can have a big impact on the performance of the cutting tool. Tell us what you'd like to do with the knife, and we'll do our best to help you find the right tool for the job (and your budget).
