Like many people, my interest in the Tom Brown Tracker was initially sparked by the 2002 movie, The Hunted, although now that I have it, I don't actually consider it a weapon, or an intricate combat device, as depicted in the film. As my focus for this purchase was general bushcrafting, I was intrigued by the multi-faceted, unique blade design, as well as the overall shape and balance of the knife. You can almost think of it as a fixed-blade, simplified Swiss Army Knife, but much more robust, and tactically solid in build and feel. I actually greatly appreciate the mass and weight, as the pictures do not do it justice--in your hand it is large and heavy, with a quarter-inch of steel end-to end, and bulky handle grips that help the knife feel like a dependable, quality multi-tool. For ultra-light backpacking on long-distance trips, this might be a little too heavy and bulky for general camping and bushcraft, but for shorter, closer getaway camping excursions, this knife could make an excellent tool for tasks such as feather-stick prep, bark stripping, ferro-rod striking, and even chopping and splitting of light kindling. As a multi-surfaced blade, more than half of the fun of ownership is getting outdoors and discovering all of the cool new things you can do with this awesome multi-tool!
