Where minimal design meets maximum utility.

The Pilar® III with D2 Blade Steel transforms the minimalist’s sailor knife into a distinctly urban everyday carry folder while keeping the spirit of the classic and the epic tale behind its name. It’s still low profile and understated when tucked away, and carefully designed to punch above its weight when in use.

  • Superior Performance: D2 blade steel for excellent edge retention
  • Easy opening: Thumb slot for easy one hand opening
  • Tough and Durable: G10 with stainless steel handle combines durability and strength
  • Brute Strength: Frame lock utilizes a thick lock bar to secure the blade

I finally found my work knife

I tried three similarly reviewed knives before I ordered the Pilar III. At just under $100 CDN for the D2 steel models it is higher quality than the cheap knives I've been wearing out.
Communications with The Cutting Edge online store were answered quickly, product shipped same day, arrived a day early.
Knife I received was sealed in its original box unlike other places where I've received open boxes.
Other knives I tried had thin and "slicy" blades. I found them delicate and they did not exhibit the strength I wanted in a work knife if I use it hard. Pilar III has a nice beefy blade but it tapers to a sharp tip and a sharp cutting edge. Perfect for my purposes.
Pilar III is a little heavier than I was expecting for a 3" blade knife cuz of brass backspacer. Feels a little hilt-heavy but stable and reassuring heft in the hand. Well thought out lanyard slot in the backspacer.
Knife feels like two knives in one. Held by the handle it is a regular knife with a decently sized blade. Choke up with your index finger in the finger choil and it is a sweet detail knife with a very competent blade.
Liner lock engages fully onto the blade.
Two detents hold blade from swinging closed so I can concentrate on what I'm doing with a knife not on operating the knife without cutting myself.
Clip is discrete, easy to use, holds tight.
So far the D2 steel hasn't needed to be resharpened.
Shape of the knife is non-threatening.
I like the Pilar III. If I lost it I would buy another.
